Commercial Cafe Equipment Cleaning Checklist

As a cafe owner, keeping your commercial coffee machines and other cafe equipment clean is essential for success. Proper maintenance schedules can ensure the longevity of your cafe equipment, which will ultimately improve the taste and quality of each cup of coffee you serve.

Whether you’re new to industry or you want to brush up on your skills, there are specific pieces of equipment that need to be cleaned and serviced regularly. Consider our checklist below to get the most out of your commercial coffee machines and other cafe equipment.

1. Countertop Refrigerator

Where there is food, there should be a rigorous and relentless cleaning process. Countertop refrigerators are where cafes tend to hold the majority of their food for the general public to see. Storing the left-over cabinet food in a separate refrigerator each day is recommended. A soapy, grime cleaning wash should be undertaken daily to remove any left-over food scraps or crumbs. Yearly servicing should also be explored, to ensure the refrigerator performs without any hiccups for a longer period.

2. Commercial Coffee Grinder

Coffee grinders deserve attention more often. When you grind beans on a regular basis, particle build up can keep your automatic or manual grinder from working as it should. Take the removable parts of the grinder out and run them through a gentle cycle, or wash them by hand. A simple wipe down of the rest of the grinder using a damp towel will do the trick.

3. Coffee Syrup Pumps & Bottles

Coffee syrup pumps tend to be a hotspot for grime build up. Coffee syrup by nature is a thick, sticky liquid and when spilt causes all sorts of mess. Should your cafe or restaurant regularly use coffee syrup in coffee, milkshakes and other sweet items alike; regular cleaning processes need to be in place. Daily wiping down of the bottle and coffee syrup pump outer is a given. However, soaking the pump in hot water weekly will ensure there is adequate deep cleaning of the piece of equipment.

4. Coffee Machine Group Handle

The coffee machine group handle is prone to oil buildup. There’s no set time for cleaning this piece of equipment, so it’s important to pay attention and take care of this maintenance task when oil surfaces. We recommend soaking it in hot water and cleaning solution for 15 minutes, then rinsing and wiping the handle clean.

5. Coffee Tamper Mat

Your automatic coffee tamper needs a wipe of warm water after each use, but don’t forget the tamper mat as well. All you have to do is rinse it regularly, or you can place it in the dishwasher for a deeper clean.

Keeping your blade grinders, coffee tampers, and everything clean is necessary when you’re running a coffee shop or cafe. Owning a business comes with great responsibility, and coffee equipment maintenance tends to fall by the wayside.
